Take It Slow — a free fish game for kids 7–10

Take It Slow is a free, browser-based science game for children aged 7 to 10. Your job is simple but tricky: move a fish into new water slowly, and watch its body to tell how it feels. Add the water too fast and the fish gets stressed — its colours dim, its gills race, and its fins clamp tight. Go gently and give it breaks, and you earn the “Bridge Fish” badge. Nobody loses; you simply learn to slow down.

It plays right in the browser with one thumb — no download, no sign-up, and no ads — and it is a free companion to the George the Guppy books by marine biologist Yechiel Kuperman.

How to play

  1. Set up the tank — choose the food, the light, and the water level like a careful fish-keeper.
  2. Hold the DRIP button to add new water slowly — one to four drops a second is safe.
  3. Watch the fish. The moment its colours dim or its fins clamp, stop and let it breathe.
  4. Fill the top bar to win — then try for a perfect, calm “Bridge Fish” run.

Frequently asked questions

Is “Take It Slow” free to play?

Yes — it is completely free and plays right in your web browser. There is no download, no sign-up, and no ads, and nothing about your child is collected while they play.

What age is the game for?

It is designed for children aged 7 to 10, but curious younger kids (and grown-ups) enjoy it too. There is no reading wall — friendly illustrated “logbook” cards guide you through each step.

What does the game teach?

Real marine biology: how to acclimate a fish to new water slowly, how to read a fish's body language — its colours, gills, and fins — to tell how it feels, and why patience matters. It is the same lesson as George the Guppy, Book 1: notice discomfort early.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes. It is built mobile-first and plays with one thumb, with no app to install. It works on phones, tablets, and computers.

Is it safe for children?

Yes. There are no ads, no accounts, and no chat, and nothing about your child is collected or shared. It is a calm game with no way to lose — nobody gets hurt, you simply learn to go slow.

How is the game related to the books?

It is a free companion to the George the Guppy picture books by marine biologist Yechiel Kuperman. The game lets kids do what Yechiel does every week — move a fish into new water without stressing it.
